This was the first time I did an engagement session in a museum and I loved it! Normally it would be too dark inside, but the National Gallery of Art East Wing has a huge beautiful skylight that lets in all of the natural light. We walked around taking pictures with paintings that Greg and Larisa enjoy. And I had them dance in the middle of the museum which was awesome! The rooftop of the museum has a rooftop with a giant blue rooster sculpture, so naturally I had to get a few pictures of them with it!
Greg and Larisa are getting married next spring at the DC War Memorial and are celebrating the reception at 3 Stars Brewing Co. afterwards. Greg also brews beer for a living so it was only natural for them to cheers with speciality beer glasses in front of the Capitol building!
Here is their love story from Larisa's perspective:
Greg and I met in 2012 over a bonfire at a house party hosted by a friend of mine. We became friends over the course of that year, not really thinking of each other in a romantic way, but getting to really know and respect each other as we each faced some tough personal challenges. Something clicked the next year, and we realized that what we had been looking for was right there in front of us. We quickly started spending all our spare time together, and it wasn't long before we were sharing Greg's apartment in Dupont Circle. When you can live together in 225 square feet for two years, you know you can survive anything.
And the proposal story!
We were on a 3 week vacation in Munich, Prague, and Vienna, during a break in Greg's five month brewing school in Germany. Unbeknownst to me, Greg had already retrieved my grandmother's ring and had it with him the whole time he was abroad, carrying it in his belt which had a special compartment in the buckle! He and his classmates had also picked out all kinds of amazing beer in Belgium for us to celebrate with, so much that it broke his suitcase from lugging it across all the cobblestone streets. He chose to propose in Prague, in a park along the river with a view of the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle lit up at night. I was so oblivious that I actually made a comment about how the location was so romantic it would be perfect for a proposal, except that - this is 100% true - it smelled like someone had recently urinated on the river wall. While Greg casually steered me to a place farther down to avoid the smell, I continued to babble about how in the end, if it was the right person the moment would be perfect no matter the circumstances. I couldn't believe how true that would be when he faked taking a picture of me in order to get down on one knee a minute later!
