These two tied the knot under the willows with their friends and family surrounding them at Pond View Farm. Joe and Kelly originally planned on getting married last year but had to quickly make the decision to reschedule due to COVID-19. The day was perfect and the storm held off for them to share their vows and take photos afterwards. One aspect that made their day very special was a recorded speech from one of Joe’s groomsmen that is currently deployed. It was such a wonderful surprise!
Here is their love story from Joe’s perspective!
Our love story started in Mount Hebron High School, however, it couldn’t have been further from love at first sight. We ran in different circles for most of high school and really didn’t interact until our senior year math class were we sat in the same row for the majority of the year. If you ask Kelly about that class now, the two things that stand out are how she got better grades than me and how I made her switch seats with me after I had knee surgery. After high school, we both ended up at Salisbury University and began to see each other more due to mutual friends from high school. After high school and during college our friends circle back home became the same, therefore we began to see each other much more frequently during school breaks. Now we are into sophomore year of college and we are seeing each other on a semi regular basis and feeling are starting to develop, we are becoming each other’s go to person at school. That summer following sophomore year, I lived in Salisbury and worked at the beach. The feeling really started to develop that summer we were talking most days and I would regularly “fall asleep” while we were texting just to have a reason to text Kelly the next day. I only went home for one weekend that entire summer and that is when I told a mutual friend that I had feelings for Kelly, to my surprise he said she had feelings for me too. Another month goes by and Junior year of college starts we are hanging out very regularly and the beginning of a relationship are starting, taking that leap from friend to dating was daunting. We now had the same friends group at home and college making that leap a whole lot more interesting. Then in October 2013 I asked Kelly to be my girlfriend. Like all relationships it isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, we have been through a lot in the past almost 6 years and have come out stronger from all of those experiences. I’m sure the future has many more challenges but I wouldn’t want to go through them with anyone else.
And the proposal story!
My proposal could best be described as a comedy of errors. Step one go to dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant in the city. The restaurant is closed. Go to a different sushi place. Step two go on a walk to the top of Federal Hill Park overlooking the harbor. It is somewhat cold and Kelly has no interest in walking away from our apartment. Mind you Kelly gave me a hug at the restaurant and grabbed the ring box in my coat pocket, in my mind she knows exactly what is going to happen. Now that my first location is a no go, I am scrambling in my brain to think of another place. We make it all the way back to our apartment and can’t wait another second. I asked her to marry me in our living room.
