Martha was a guest at Meghan & Luke's wedding last spring. When she told me she was engaged and wanted to talk to me about doing her wedding I was thrilled! I met her and her fiancé Matt in Historic Williamsburg for their engagement shoot. There was a 50% chance of rain and we were so worried we wouldn't be able to do the shoot! Thankfully, the rain held off and the overcast sky was perfect.
Here is their story from Martha's perspective!
Matt and I met in the summer of 2006 when we were both studying music at the Governor's School Summer Residential program at the University of Richmond. In the following years we kept in touch, and our friendship grew stronger even though we never lived in the same place. We'd see each other once or twice a summer, usually when he was playing the trumpet in shows at Busch Gardens. Each summer he'd save a free ticket for me, and I'd drive an hour from Virginia Beach to hang out with him in the park. Over the years, from time to time he'd suggest that we should be more than friends, but I wasn't willing to start a romantic relationship off long distance.
Everything changed in March of 2013 when we were both offered jobs at Busch Gardens. Matt had already finished Grad School, but he moved Heaven and Earth to rearrange his summer plans so that we could "give it a shot." We had the most wonderful summer performing in the park and falling in love! When August rolled around and I had to leave for Grad School, we bothknew that what we had was special, and was worth long distance.
In March of 2014, Matt joined the Army as a bandsman, and two days before he left for Basic Combat Training he asked me to be his wife. He'd planned a special day for us with everything from "our song," a hidden video camera, a family heirloom diamond, and a surprise engagement party with friends and family.
Our story is a testament to God's amazing grace and sovereign timing. We thought we'd never have the chance to be more than friends, but we're so excited and grateful that He had bigger plans! We're over-the-moon happy together, and are counting down the days until May 2015!
Enjoy these shots of Martha & Matt!
